Basement floods but I want to make it into a mini apartment?

I currenly live in home that was probably built in the 60's. the basement floods all the time. its a small amount of water that comes in..nothing really high. I want to make the basement into a mini apartment for myself...even putting in a carpet. money is tight since i am still in college but i gotta do what i gotta do. any suggestions and or costs? i need to do whatever it takes to guarantee that this basement will not flood ever again. thanks in advance.|||You need a contractor to acess the problem, there may be to many variabes to do this long distance have a professional look at it. You dont want to put in an aparment and have it ruined with water and mildew.Sorry its the only reasonable solution. It just recently happened with someone in my family he thought a sealant would work.|||WATER BED...|||that sucks. get someone to *** out and look at your walls. there is no telling where the water is cumming from. t hey might tell you to re-seal the walls|||if u can collect water in one spot, set up sump pump. trying to seal leak from inside is senseless.|||THIS HAPPENED TO MY OLD HOUSE AND I WENT TO THE HARDWARE STORE AND BOUGHT A CAN OF PAINT THAT WOULD SEAL THE WALLS AND FLOORS AND THE RAIN NEVER CAME IN AGAIN. MAYBE THEY EVEN HAVE SOMETHING BETTER ON THE MARKET. CHECK IT OUT. GOOD LUCK HON!|||They do make a 'paint' thats specifically designed for basements to keep moisture out. It works real well. But you need to know where the water is coming in. If it's just seeping in, the paint may work for you but if you've got a crack, you'll need it professionally repaired.|||ME thinks you might change your thought process from stopping water from coming in (and by all means do what you can to stop it) to planing for it coming in. little things like useing area rugs instead of carpet. Keep any dry wall a few inches from the floor and hide the gap with floor boards|||if the water is coming in between the floor and wall, this means you have to much water built up under your floor, if you have a sump pump now and there still is water your wall is cracked, however, do you have floor drains in your basement, such as the laundry room and garage%26gt; if you have try removing the grateing and drill 3 -1/4 inch hole in the bottom, if water is there will spray up like a fountain until the pressure is relieved, but going back down the drain. I did this to my drains almost 15 years ago and have not had a wet basement since, even when we had 6 inch or more of rain.
