How do I transfer my mini dv camcorder cassette to my computer?

I have a samsung mini dv model number: SC-D353 and i want to transfer all my cassettes to my computer. Can anyone help me with this.|||You can do this yourself with a firewire cable and a video capture program or you can send the tape(s) to a video transfer service.

If you don't have a firewire port on your computer you can get one for ~$30

When you connect your camcorder to your computer with a firewire cord and turn the camcorder to VCR mode a list of video capture programs will come. StashSpace has a free easy to use one.

Or use a video transfer service StashSpace does a good job at this. You send them your tape and they digitize it for you. Access it online to edit and share, get it back on a portable hard drive, or burn it to DVD.|||If you have a mini dv (cassette) camcorder鈥?

Your dv camcorder needs a firewire connection (ieee 1394) in order to download video, your PC probably did not come with a firewire port, so you will have to buy one and install it, since most computers (except possibly brand new) don't come with a firewire port, your camcorder did not come with a firewire cord so you have to purchase a cord too. Your camcorder did come with a USB cord and that is used for downloading stills from your camcorder. Make sure your camera is in playback mode.

The fine print in your manual makes reference to firewire (ieee 1394) connection.|||You can import video to your computer by connecting a firewire cable to the camcorder's DV port and the firewire port of your computer.

USB won't work. USB to firewire converter/adapter/hub/cable things won't work, either.

If your computer does not have a firewire port, hopefully it has an available expansion slot so you can add one. Since you have not told us which computer, we have no way to know.|||you don't have to have a firewire option. Here is a link to a USB Video capture device that you can use to convert most video inputs to DVD with, including software:
