I am getting a mini daschund and plan to keep it in the house.
We have a 2-year-old male Lab who stays outside. I want to avoid possible conflicts with the Lab as much as possible. Any suggestions? This doxie will be 7 weeks old when I get it.|||My mini daschund is a female and she's not the best dog ever, I think she would be Emo if she were a human.|||Are you planning on spaying or neutering the doxie? If you don't neuter the male, you may have him urinating on the furniture to tell the Lab that is his territory. If you don't spay the female, the Lab may injure her when she comes into heat.
I prefer females as indoor dogs. I ahve had better luck housetraining them especially after we have had males in the house.|||A female would be the best choice. Males can be competitve, and they might spray to "mark their terriotory." And that is not good for carpet and furniture. =]]|||slowly introudce the dogs maybe have the dashund stay inside and put it near a glass door (if you have one) and the labs on the other side then after awhile go on the oppiste side of the fence and let the dogs sniff each other through the fence then after awhile take your daschund outside and stay with it|||I think a female makes a better house pet. We have two Manchester Terriers, one male and one female. The female listens better. I also have a small Black Long-haired Chihuahua. She is a female, her name is Martini, and she is a very very smart dog. She has alot of names really. Martini, Teenie Weenie, Teenie, and Tince.
